Best Kids Board Games – Growing up one of my favorite things to do was sit with my family and play some of the best kids board games we could find.
We seemed to do this pretty often, and it was something the whole family would partake in.
My sister and I got to take turns picking out what board game was to be played that night and sometimes we would play a couple games per night.
My sister and I also loved to play games just the two of us. Still today I feel board games teach kids many things like patience, sharing, taking turns, counting, and more.
From classic board games like Candy Land, Monopoly, Life, Clue, Sorry, Chutes & Ladders, Hi-Ho-Cherrio, Operation, etc., to newer games like Apples to Apples, Scattergories, Watch ya Mouth, Pictionary, etc.
There are family games, strategy games, classic games, guessing games, cooperative games, fast paced games, games for kids, and even funny games like Don’t Step in It.
No matter how you play, or who wins the game, all board games can be fun. I have to say that my favorite board game has to be Yahtzee.
It might not be a “board” game but yet it was one that I played the most as a young kid and adult. In Yahtzee players take turns rolling the dice and adding up their points on score cards. It’s basically a game of chance, not smarts.
Two of our other favorites that we played often were Skunk and Pass the Pigs.
My husband and I even play these today. I love how the Pass the Pigs game pieces are pigs. hehe!
A couple others that I think will always be staples at our family get togethers are UNO, cuz we all love colorful cards, and Farkle.
Gosh, looking back at my list here I guess I am a game freak!! Maybe that’s where my son gets his love of games and family time so much. There are lots of things one can do to pass the time, even in the summer with fun summer games and activities.
With the holiday’s upon us it’s always nice to have games for when everyone is together. I also like to buy a game a year and give to the family, from Santa.
I have done that for years and years. That adds a new game to our game shelf and gives us lots of variety when it comes to family game night.
Back in 2007 when my Mom passed away my Dad had my sister and I split up all the games that were at his house.
Since we had kids and he figured they would be better in a place they would get played than sitting at his house in closet.
I love those games I got to take as they hold many memories and memories are all we have to hold onto when loved ones leave us.
The memory of my Mom’s laugh, her smile, and her love of family times is something I can always cherish. I too find myself loving the games my Mom and Dad used to play, just the two of them.
Like Cribbage and Gin Rummy.
