I get it, you have the chance to work from home and this can seem extremely flexible and a fabulous opportunity to take advantage of. While it can give you all of what you need when it comes to striking that work and home life balance right, it can also cause you to run at the same level for a longer period of time. Without the encouragement of a line manager, you are your own boss and it is down to you to make life easier and to progress at your chosen option for working from home. So I thought I would share with you some of the ways you can do it.
Make an area in your home purely for work
Working from home gives you great flexibility I know, but it can also feel like you are constantly in that grey area. You are never quite off the clock and this can mean in home related tasks as well as work related ones. It can often mean that you jump from one role to another, without there being too much structure to your day. This can get overwhelming. So try and designate a spot in your home just for work. Once you are there you are in work mode, but once you leave the desk you are in home mode. It helps you to differentiate between the two people you are in the same space.
Try out new time management options
Time management is something I think everyone who works from home will need to work on a little more. You don’t have the structure of a working day that involves a commute to work, a certain amount of working hours and your commute home. So you need to structure your day similarly at home, to ensure you get the most out of the time allocated to working. Working from home gives you flexibility, but it also means youa have to take advantage of the time you do have to dedicate to it.
Continue to progress and learn in any way you can
It is also just as important to continue your learning journey when you work from home. That means that you can keep up with necessary skills you need, learn new ones to help you develop your home working life into something more. This is when home learning and online course can be a real advantage and even things like an online accredited mba program can give you big steps to help you work on your business model or improve the current job you do have at home. Never stop learning.
Expand and step out of your comfort zone
Finally, just because you work from home doesn’t mean that you have to be happy with just steady progress. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. This might mean expanding in some way, more stock for your business, saying yes to more opportunities and just going for it. We only get one chance.
I hope that this helps you to make life easier and more productive when working from home.
